Take your time - Olafur Eliasson

Take Your Time is the first large-scale exhibition of works by Danish-Icelandic artist, Olafur Eliasson, to be presented in Australia. It is at the MCA until the 11th of April and is a must see for any designer.
The reason for this is much of Eliasson's work uses light as it's medium and makes us question what we know about light, colour and how we interact with it.
One of the most striking examples of this is "Room for one colour", one of the first exhibits which is a room bathed entirely in yellow fluorescent light, the effect of this is that it washes almost all light out of everything around you, you look at the person beside you and they appear to be in black and white, the only sign of colour being an occasional purple halo around any dark areas on them as they move.
Other works including "360° Room for all Colours", "One Way Colour Tunnel" and "Beauty" are equally stunning and make similar use of light and colour to challenge the way you look at the world around you. I could describe them all here but it really wouldn't do them justice, they have to be experienced.
While you're at the MCA I'd also recommend taking a trip upstairs to visit Sylvie Blocher's "What Is Missing?" exhibition. Her 'Living Pictures' are huge video screens displaying her subjects, ordinary people answering questions and expressing their thoughts on the world around them. We never hear her questions but the answers and Blocher's framing of the subjects are sure to give everyone an insight into modern life as it is for these people and make us question how our own life and situation compares.
